Fictional Biography
Mickey Goldmill was born on 7 April 1905 to a Jewish family, as evidenced by his funeral in Rocky III, which took place in a synagogue. He boxed professionally from 1922 until 1947, but never gained any measure of fame. Goldmill recalled that he once knocked an opponent out of the ring the same day that Luis Firpo did the same to Jack Dempsey 14 September 1923. Goldmill claimed that the reason his victory didn't garner any media attention was that he didn't have a manager, while Dempsey did. He retired in 1947, with a record of 72 Wins, (70 K.O.'s), 1 Loss. Some time after his retirement (in 1948), he opened a boxing gym in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mighty Mick's Boxing, and began to train fighters. While the grave stone in Rocky III states Mickey's date of birth to be April 7, 1905, in the original movie Mickey clearly tells Rocky that he is 76 years old. That takes place at Thanksgiving (November 27, 1976) which would place Mickey's birth year to be 1900.

Famous quotes containing the words fictional and/or biography:
“One of the proud joys of the man of lettersif that man of letters is an artistis to feel within himself the power to immortalize at will anything he chooses to immortalize. Insignificant though he may be, he is conscious of possessing a creative divinity. God creates lives; the man of imagination creates fictional lives which may make a profound and as it were more living impression on the worlds memory.”
—Edmond De Goncourt (18221896)
“Just how difficult it is to write biography can be reckoned by anybody who sits down and considers just how many people know the real truth about his or her love affairs.”
—Rebecca West (18921983)
