He studied A-levels in English, French and History.

He studied History and English at Oriel College, Oxford, touring the USA for six weeks in his final year. He graduated with a 2:1 Bachelor of Arts degree. Famous quotes containing the words early, life and/or education:

At the earliest ending of winter,
In March, a scrawny cry from outside
Seemed like a sound in his mind.
He knew that he heard it,
A bird’s cry, at daylight or before,
    In the early March wind.
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

I am no more a witch than you are a wizard. If you take my life away, God will give you blood to drink.
    Sarah Good (?–1692)

The principle goal of education in the schools should be creating men and women who are capable of doing new things, not simply repeating what other generations have done; men and women who are creative, inventive and discoverers, who can be critical and verify, and not accept, everything they are offered.
    Jean Piaget (1896–1980)
