Michael Knighton - Early Life

Early Life

Knighton grew up in Derbyshire and was a talented footballer in his youth, and took on an apprenticeship with Everton in 1965. He failed to make his mark there, however, and moved to Coventry City. His dreams of playing football, however, were shattered when he ruptured a muscle in his thigh. After achieving a degree in physical education at Bede College Durham University, he briefly became a teacher, also receiving a FA coaching badge. He then moved into property trading, buying a number of properties in the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, basing himself in the latter.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

Long before I wrote stories, I listened for stories. Listening for them is something more acute than listening to them. I suppose it’s an early form of participation in what goes on. Listening children know stories are there. When their elders sit and begin, children are just waiting and hoping for one to come out, like a mouse from its hole.
    Eudora Welty (b. 1909)

Had Dr. Johnson written his own life, in conformity with the opinion which he has given, that every man’s life may be best written by himself; had he employed in the preservation of his own history, that clearness of narration and elegance of language in which he has embalmed so many eminent persons, the world would probably have had the most perfect example of biography that was ever exhibited.
    James Boswell (1740–95)
