Depiction in Media

Dukakis has appeared and been mentioned in various media:

  • Dukakis is an interview subject in the 1994 film, Old Warrior, directed by Joshua Seftel.
  • He made a cameo appearance in the medical drama St. Elsewhere "Bye, George,". He limps to the hospital desk and says that he has suffered a jogging injury, but Dr. Fiscus (played by Howie Mandel) refuses to believe that he is the governor.
  • A picture of Dukakis is featured in The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear. It hangs on the walls inside "The Blue Note" bar, next to photos depicting notable disasters in history. This "disaster" reference is implied again at the end of the film, when Frank Drebin shares his dream of "a world where the Democrats will put somebody up there worth voting for."
  • He is mentioned and seen in the 2001 film, Donnie Darko.
  • Dukakis has a cameo in the 2007 direct to video film, The Junior Defenders.
  • Dukakis appears in the 2008 award-winning documentary on Lee Atwater, Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story.
  • In an episode of Friends ("The One with the Donor"), Chandler and Monica's friend Zack (portrayed by John Stamos) is asked by the couple if he has a history of mental illness in the family, to which he replies: "No, although I did have an uncle who voted for Dukakis".
  • In an episode of Louie (Ep. 1.4 "So Old/Playdate"), while having sex with a woman turned on by older men, Louie mentions that he voted for Dukakis as proof of his age.
  • An episode of Futurama ("Freedom Day") references the infamous campaign photo by depicting a squadron of "Fighting Dukakis" marching in a military parade.

The corporate grip on opinion in the United States is one of the wonders of the Western World. No First World country has ever managed to eliminate so entirely from its media all objectivity—much less dissent.
