At a performance at The Troubador, with the Weir family band (The Weirz), Damian was recognized from an 1981 appearance on American Bandstand, Michael Damian Weir was approached and agreed to play the part of a struggling singer (Danny Romalotti) on the daytime television series, The Young and the Restless.

Damian made his feature film debut as an actor in the Garry Marshall-directed comedy Young Doctors in Love. Later followed a recurring role for two seasons on NBC's The Facts of Life as a rock singer named Flyman, who romanced Nancy McKeon's character, Jo.

"We were writing letters to a bunch of people in the business and figured that, if it was signed by a member of my family, they wouldn't take me seriously," he said. "So I took my middle name, Damian, and Larry signed the letters. That brought a bunch of interested people to the Troubadour to see us, and one of them became my first real manager."

Famous quotes containing the word career:

Each of the professions means a prejudice. The necessity for a career forces every one to take sides. We live in the age of the overworked, and the under-educated; the age in which people are so industrious that they become absolutely stupid.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)

I restore myself when I’m alone. A career is born in public—talent in privacy.
    Marilyn Monroe (1926–1962)

A black boxer’s career is the perfect metaphor for the career of a black male. Every day is like being in the gym, sparring with impersonal opponents as one faces the rudeness and hostility that a black male must confront in the United States, where he is the object of both fear and fascination.
    Ishmael Reed (b. 1938)
