Miami Central High School

Miami Central High School

Miami Central Senior High School, commonly referred to as Central Rockets, is a secondary school located at 1781 NW 95th Street in West Little River, unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida, USA. The school serves most of the northern fringes of the city of Miami as well as parts of North Miami, Opa-Locka, the village of Miami Shores, and the village of El Portal. The current principal is Gregory Bethune. Miami Central opened its doors in 1959; the school mascot and colors were chosen in honor of NASA and its space program which was an event at the time of the schools opening. In the early 1990s, the school acquired a computer science magnet program placed as part of the district's initiative to devote school space to certain magnet programs so as to attract minority students to schools with large populations of one particular ethnic group.

Central's athletic rival is Miami Northwestern High School.

Famous quotes containing the words central, high and/or school:

When life has been well spent, age is a loss of what it can well spare,—muscular strength, organic instincts, gross bulk, and works that belong to these. But the central wisdom, which was old in infancy, is young in fourscore years, and dropping off obstructions, leaves in happy subjects the mind purified and wise.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Esteem must be founded on preference: to hold everyone in high esteem is to esteem nothing.
    Molière [Jean Baptiste Poquelin] (1622–1673)

For millions of men and women, the church has been the hospital for the soul, the school for the mind and the safe depository for moral ideas.
    Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
