Miami (Amtrak Station)

Miami is a train station on the southern end of two popular inter-city trains, the Amtrak Silver Meteor and Silver Star. The station is located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on the border of Miami and Hialeah, ten miles northwest of downtown Miami. It was built on the site of the former Seaboard Air Line Railroad southern coach yards, to which Amtrak moved in 1977 when it abandoned the original Seaboard station at 2210 NW 7th Avenue in Allapattah, two miles north of downtown.

Amtrak is planning to move to the new Miami Central Station, which will act as a hub for Amtrak, Tri-Rail, and Metrorail. Construction of the new station is currently scheduled for completion in 2013. The new station will be four miles west of downtown, just east of Miami International Airport.

Of the eighteen Florida stations served by Amtrak, Miami was the fourth-busiest in FY2011, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 259 passengers daily.
