Academics

Typically, 96% of graduates continue their education. Of these, 37% opt for two-year colleges, 59% go to four-year colleges, and 1% go to vocational schools. The other 3% take a job or go into the military.

M-A offers the following Advanced Placement courses: Art History; Biology; Calculus AB/BC; English Language/Composition; English Literature/Composition; Environmental Science; European History; French Language/Literature; Latin; Physics; Spanish Language/Literature; Statistics; Studio Art; and US History. It also has the Advanced Via Individual Determination program and the Computer Academy, programs for students seeking a smaller, supportive learning environment.

Many elective classes are available to M-A students. Art, art history, web design, photography, ceramics, concert band, three jazz bands, orchestra, choir, piano, drama, and stagecraft are offered for fine arts credits. Computer science, video production, digital audio production, animation, woodshop, drafting, engineering, architecture, living skills, food and nutrition, and journalism are offered for career technical education credits. Students in journalism as an elective can either be a part of the Bear News, which runs the M-A Bear News web site, or The MArk, the school's printed magazine. Other electives include yearbook, leadership, gender studies, psychology, Cold War, Russian history, and Russian literature. The leadership program runs the annual canned food drive, which bring in tens of thousands of cans for the surrounding community each year.

With teacher supervision and administrative approval, a student may undertake independent study in one course. Through concurrent enrollment in local community colleges juniors and seniors take advanced and special-interest courses.

Students taking six periods begin school at 8:45am on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, 9:25am on Wednesdays, and 9:40am on Thursdays. Students taking seven periods begin at 7:50am on all days except for Wednesday, when they begin at 9:25am. Release each day is at 3:15pm.
