Mencia - Relationship To Other Grapes

Relationship To Other Grapes

It was once thought to be an ancient clone of Cabernet Franc, with which it shares some of its aromas, an impression which has been dispelled with DNA profiling.

It is often cited as being identical to Portugal's Jaen du Dão (or "Jaen" for short) grape variety, but as of 2010, the Vitis International Variety Catalogue keeps separate records for these two varieties, in which there are no overlapping synonyms. However, DNA profiling carried out by the Department of Vegetal Biology of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid has concluded that Mencía and Jaen are one and the same. See the Department's variety catalog at http://www.sivvem.monbyte.com/sivvem.asp.

Famous quotes containing the words relationship to, relationship and/or grapes:

... the Wall became a magnet for citizens of every generation, class, race, and relationship to the war perhaps because it is the only great public monument that allows the anesthetized holes in the heart to fill with a truly national grief.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)

It is possible to make friends with our children—but probably not while they are children.... Friendship is a relationship of mutual dependence-interdependence. A family is a relationship in which some of the participants are dependent on others. It is the job of parents to provide for their children. It is not appropriate for adults to enter into parenthood recognizing they have made a decision to accept dependents and then try to pretend that their children are not dependent on them.
    Donald C. Medeiros (20th century)
