Melling, is the name of several places in England; one in New Zealand and one in Styria, Austria. The name was once used on a locomotive. Melling originates from the Anglo-Saxon roots for "The homestead of Maella", (or Malla), first settled in Lancashire, England by Maella's family in the 6th century.
