Demise of Alliance
In the lead up to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly election, 2008 all the regional parties forming the MDA decided to contest against the INC. The UDP, MDP, KHNAM and HPDP fielded candidates against INC and made corruption and government failure as their main election issues to garner votes against the INC.
This effectively meant the quiet demise of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance after a 5-year survival.
The MDA was effectively replaced by the Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA) after the 2008 elections as INC tried to form the Government with support from independents.

Famous quotes containing the word alliance:
“In short, no association or alliance can be happy or stable without me. People cant long tolerate a ruler, nor can a master his servant, a maid her mistress, a teacher his pupil, a friend his friend nor a wife her husband, a landlord his tenant, a soldier his comrade nor a party-goer his companion, unless they sometimes have illusions about each other, make use of flattery, and have the sense to turn a blind eye and sweeten life for themselves with the honey of folly.”
—Desiderius Erasmus (c. 14661536)
