MC SIR - Music Style

Music Style

Wang Xiaolei's distinctive rapping style mostly features on his stark lyrics describing poor life in China. The state of his childhood plays a major role in his music style. Here is an example of his work (a sample from "我要赚钱" ("Make Money")):

Original Chinese:

美国没去过 跑车没有坐过
Gucci没穿过 美女没有爱过
别墅没住过 美酒没喝过
这也是你们想要的 别欺骗自我

English Translation:

I never been to the U.S., never rode in a sports car
I never wore any Gucci or been loved by a pretty woman
I never lived in a house, never drank fine wine
Those are what you want, I'm not gonna fool myself

His lyrics show strong dislike for the capitalist society in China, as since he was a child, he had been living in harsh conditions. All his music is in Mandarin Chinese, with occasional use of English words.

Famous quotes containing the words music and/or style:

So gladly, from the songs of modern speech
Men turn, and see the stars, and feel the free
Shrill wind beyond the close of heavy flowers,
And through the music of the languid hours,
They hear like ocean on a western beach
The surge and thunder of the Odyssey.
    Andrew Lang (1844–1912)

The difference between style and taste is never easy to define, but style tends to be centered on the social, and taste upon the individual. Style then works along axes of similarity to identify group membership, to relate to the social order; taste works within style to differentiate and construct the individual. Style speaks about social factors such as class, age, and other more flexible, less definable social formations; taste talks of the individual inflection of the social.
    John Fiske (b. 1939)
