Personal Life

He married Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman in 1985 and they had two sons, Azaan and Zahaan. Mazhar and Zeenat had also acted in a few films together in the 1980s. Tragically Mazhar was ill with a kidney infection and later succembed to the disease. Mazhar died in September 1998 of renal failure. Before his death, Zeenat filed for divorce. Prior to this marriage, he was married to Rubaina Mumtaz, a Bombay socialite, niece of Dilip Kumar and a granddaughter of Fazal Nawaz Jung.

His sister Nilofer Amrohi is married to Tajdar Amrohi who inherited Kamalistan Film Studio along with his siblings from his illustrious father Kamal Amrohi.
