- Roger Wheeler, President of Telex Corporation and owner of World Jai Alai, was shot to death by gunmen after finishing a round of golf at the Southern Hills country club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2001, mob hitman John Martorano pleaded guilty to Wheeler's murder.
