Mawson Interchange - Rail and Bus Services

Rail and Bus Services

All rail services are provided by Adelaide Metro using diesel railcars. All northbound trains depart from Platform 1 and continue to Salisbury, Gawler or Gawler Central. Southbound trains depart from Platform 2 and terminate at Adelaide.

Trains to and from Adelaide and Gawler operate every 15 minutes at off-peak times on Monday to Friday, and every 30 minutes through the day on Saturday and Sunday. Services are more frequent in peak hours. In the evening, trains run every hour.

Local buses from Mawson Interchange are scheduled to connect with train arrivals and departures and use the Adelaide Metro ticketing system, which allows free transfer between buses and trains within time limits. Bus services are currently operated by SouthLink and Torrens Transit under contract to the S.A. Government’s Office of Public Transport.

Bus routes from Mawson Interchange (as of April 2008) are:

  • 222 and 224 travelling south to City via the Mawson Lakes, South Australia residential area and Main North Road. 224 also continues north to Elizabeth Station via Salisbury Interchange

A number of freight trains also pass through Mawson Interchange. Through the station itself, there are broad gauge trains carrying limestone from the Barossa Valley to Osborne and trains carrying grain from Roseworthy to Port Adelaide for export.

Just west of the passenger station (but not passing through the platforms) is the ARTC standard gauge main line northwards from Adelaide. This is used by regular interstate freight trains to and from Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Darwin, together with The Ghan and Indian Pacific transcontinental passenger trains.

Famous quotes containing the words rail and, rail, bus and/or services:

Old man, it’s four flights up and for what?
Your room is hardly any bigger than your bed.
Puffing as you climb, you are a brown woodcut
stooped over the thin rail and the wornout tread.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

In my conscience I believe the baggage loves me, for she never speaks well of me herself, nor suffers any body else to rail at me.
    William Congreve (1670–1729)

David: All the reporters are on the bus.
Lucas: Okay, start the bus then. And drive them over a cliff.
Jeremy Larner, U.S. screenwriter, and Michael Ritchie. David (Chris Prey)

Men will say that in supporting their wives, in furnishing them with houses and food and clothes, they are giving the women as much money as they could ever hope to earn by any other profession. I grant it; but between the independent wage-earner and the one who is given his keep for his services is the difference between the free-born and the chattel.
    Elizabeth M. Gilmer (1861–1951)
