Matterhorn - Weather

Weather

The Matterhorn is an isolated mountain. Because of its position on the main Alpine watershed and its great height, the Matterhorn is exposed to rapid weather changes. In addition the steep faces of the mountain and its isolated location make it prone to banner clouds formation with the air flowing around and creating vortices, conducting condensation of the air on the lee side.

Famous quotes containing the word weather:

Whenever the weather licks the pilot instead of him lickin’ the weather, he’s finished. The first time makes the second time easier. And the first thing he knows, he’s in trouble when the weather is perfect.
    Frank W. Wead (1895?–1947)

And there could I marvel my birthday
Away but the weather turned around. And the true
Joy of the long dead child sang burning
    In the sun.
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

    What
One believes is what matters. Ecstatic identities
Between one’s self and the weather and the things
Of the weather are the belief in one’s element,
    The casual reunions, the long-pondered
    Surrenders, the repeated sayings that
There is nothing more and that it is enough....
    Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)
