Stajan has worn #14 throughout his career in honour of his late uncle Robert, who died from cancer when Matt was a child. While playing for the Leafs, Matt stated that he would change his number if the Leafs were ever to retire it in honor of Former Leafs great Dave Keon. With the Flames, Matt is currently wearing #18. No Flames player has worn #14 in Calgary since Theoren Fleury.
