Matt Hern is a writer, academic, organizer, activist and lecturer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is known for his work in radical urbanism, community development, alternative forms of education, and his explorations of social power, domination, popular control, pluralism, difference and solidarity.
He helped found the Purple Thistle Centre and Car Free Vancouver Day.
His writing has been published on all six continents, translated into many languages and he continues to lecture widely. He holds a PhD in Urban Studies and teaches at Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia.
