Famous quotes containing the words masters of, masters and/or deception:

It is only a short step from exaggerating what we can find in the world to exaggerating our power to remake the world. Expecting more novelty than there is, more greatness than there is, and more strangeness than there is, we imagine ourselves masters of a plastic universe. But a world we can shape to our will ... is a shapeless world.
    Daniel J. Boorstin (b. 1914)

Men at some time are masters of their fates,
The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,
But in ourselves, that we are underlings.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

To many men much-wandering hope comes as a boon, but to many others it is the deception of vain desires.
    Sophocles (497–406/5 B.C.)
