The Master of Education (M.Ed., MEd, Ed.M., M.A.Ed., M.S.Ed., M.S.E., or M.Ed.L) is a postgraduate academic master's degree awarded by universities in a large number of countries. This degree in education often includes the following majors: curriculum and instruction, counseling, school psychology, and administration. It is often conferred for educators advancing in their field. For classroom teachers in some of the states of the USA, including Massachusetts and New York, a master's degree (or acceptable equivalent) is required to earn a professional license. In most states a master's degree or higher is required for a principalship or school counseling position.
