Legacy

Most Marylanders fought for the Union, but after the war a number of memorials were erected in sympathy with the Southern "Lost Cause". Baltimore boasts a Robert E. Lee memorial and there was a home for retired Confederate soldiers in Pikesville. There is a Confederate monument behind the courthouse in Rockville, Maryland, dedicated to "the thin grey line". Easton also has a Confederate monument.
