Mary Mediatrix of All Graces - Marian Devotion in The Philippines

Marian Devotion in The Philippines

Among Filipino Catholics, the term Mediatrix is known to an alleged 1948 Marian apparition called Our Lady Mediatrix of All Graces in the Carmelite monastery of Lipa, Batangas, Philippines. The Marian title is endorsed by the Archdiocese of Manila along with its visionary, Teresita Castillo and Filipino stigmatist Emma de Guzman. The apparition is well known in the Philippines and among Filipino communities abroad, most notably the preserved rose petals which showered the monastery, to which believers also claim to be miraculous.

On the Feast of the Assumption 2007, former Philippine president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, signed "Proclamation No: 1362" of September 12 as a "National Day of Prayer for Peace and Reconciliation" in honor of the alleged apparitions. Philippine Ambassador to the Holy See Madam Mercedes Arrastia Tuason is a known devotee of the Marian title and displays a large statue in her consulate office in Rome.
