Mary Dyer - Early Life

Early Life

Dyer's origins are unverified, but tradition has it that she was the daughter of Lady Arbella Stuart and Sir William Seymour. However, because her maiden name was Barrett, this is doubtful. On occasion she was a guest of the royal court of King Charles I as a child. The ballgown worn for these visits was brought with her to Colonial America and pieces are said to be in the possession of her descendants.

Famous quotes containing the words early life, early and/or life:

... business training in early life should not be regarded solely as insurance against destitution in the case of an emergency. For from business experience women can gain, too, knowledge of the world and of human beings, which should be of immeasurable value to their marriage careers. Self-discipline, co-operation, adaptability, efficiency, economic management,—if she learns these in her business life she is liable for many less heartbreaks and disappointments in her married life.
    Hortense Odlum (1892–?)

If there is a price to pay for the privilege of spending the early years of child rearing in the driver’s seat, it is our reluctance, our inability, to tolerate being demoted to the backseat. Spurred by our success in programming our children during the preschool years, we may find it difficult to forgo in later states the level of control that once afforded us so much satisfaction.
    Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)

The further through life I drift
The more obvious it becomes that I am lacking in thrift.
    Ogden Nash (1902–1971)
