Marquesses In The United Kingdom
Marquess is a rank of nobility in the peerages of the United Kingdom.
Unlike the position on the continent of Europe, in the Kingdom of England, and later in Great Britain and the United Kingdom, the monarch is the only one capable of awarding titles of nobility. There are currently thirty-four such marquessates (see List).

Famous quotes containing the words united and/or kingdom:
“The veto is a Presidents Constitutional right, given to him by the drafters of the Constitution because they wanted it as a check against irresponsible Congressional action. The veto forces Congress to take another look at legislation that has been passed. I think this is a responsible tool for a president of the United States, and I have sought to use it responsibly.”
—Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
“...the kingdom of God depends not on talk but on power.”
—Bible: New Testament, 1 Corinthians 4:20.
