Mark Slavens - 2006 State Senate Race

2006 State Senate Race

Slavens was the Democratic nominee for State Senate in Michigan's 7th State Senate district. He was unopposed in the August 2006 Democratic primary and won the nomination. He opposed incumbent Republican Bruce Patterson.

Slavens won the cities of Belleville, Flat Rock, Plymouth, Rockwood, Trenton and Woodhaven. He also won the townships of Brownstown, Sumpter and Van Buren. Slavens and Patterson exactly tied in Gibraltar, Michigan.

Although Patterson won in Canton Township, Slavens took 48% of the vote in that community. Most Democratic candidates, especially for state legislative seats, have never come close to that margin.

Famous quotes containing the words state, senate and/or race:

Romance reading and writing might be seen ... as a collectively elaborated female ritual through which women explore the consequences of their common social condition as the appendages of men and attempt to imagine a more perfect state where all the needs they so intensely feel and accept as given would be adequately addressed.
    Janice A. Radway (b. 1949)

What times! What manners! The Senate knows these things, the consul sees them, and yet this man lives.
    Marcus Tullius Cicero (106–43 B.C.)

This race is never grateful: from the first,
One fills their cup at supper with pure wine,
Which back they give at cross-time on a sponge,
    In bitter vinegar.
    Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806–1861)
