Mark Rossini - Role in Tracking Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda

Role in Tracking Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda

The PBS show Nova included segments from interviews of Rossini, who described his experience serving as one of the two FBI liaisons to the Bin Laden Issue Station, an inter-agency team assigned to track Osama bin Laden and his associates. Rossini described being aware in early 2000 that two dangerous associates of bin Laden, Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid al-Mihdhar, had valid US visas, but that his CIA manager stopped him from passing the information to the FBI headquarters. He knew that if he informed his FBI colleagues he would be breaking the law. The two men turned out to be hijackers of American Airlines flight 77 on 9/11.

Famous quotes containing the words role in, role, tracking and/or laden:

If women’s role in life is limited solely to housewife/mother, it clearly ends when she can no longer bear more children and the children she has borne leave home.
    Betty Friedan (20th century)

Such is the role of poetry. It unveils, in the strict sense of the word. It lays bare, under a light which shakes off torpor, the surprising things which surround us and which our senses record mechanically.
    Jean Cocteau (1889–1963)

Such is the art of writing as Dreiser understands it and practices it—an endless piling up of minutiae, an almost ferocious tracking down of ions, electrons and molecules, an unshakable determination to tell it all. One is amazed by the mole-like diligence of the man, and no less by his exasperating disregard for the ease of his readers.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

They [the children] live in a world of delightful imagination; they pursue persons and objects that never existed; they make an Argosy laden with gold out of a floating butterfly,—and these stupid [grown-up people] try to translate these things into uninteresting facts.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)
