Mark Patton was born on February 13, 1964, as the second child of Roy and Judy Patton in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended the North Kansas City High School where he was tutored by Theater Teacher Mildred Fulton, who he credits with his success as an actor. Ever since Patton got the role in the hit 1980's film Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge, he has been very close friends with Robert Rusler.

Since his last acting role, Patton has become a successful interior designer and painter, currently residing in Mexico. In a recent interview, he has expressed interest in acting once more, but only if offered a role that interests him enough to make him return to the screen. In the same interview he stated that he would like to appear in a sequel to the new A Nightmare on Elm Street movie, possibly in an homage to his character Jesse Walsh in the original sequel.

Mark owns a gallery in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico named Lalo Morales. Mark has announced that he is gay and very happily so. He is involved with the Trevor Project and Peace in Jalisco.
