Marion County, Arkansas
Marion County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of 2010, the population was 16,653. The county seat is Yellville. Marion County is Arkansas's 35th county and its first following statehood, formed on September 25, 1836, and named for Francis Marion, an American General in the Revolutionary War. The county was at first made up of areas that included part of what is now Searcy County, Arkansas, with many opposing splitting the two, which partly fueled the bloody Tutt-Everett War, which began in 1844 and continued into 1850. Prior to the 2006 general election, the county was a dry county, prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages.
