Marine Isotopic Stage 11 - MIS 11: Warmer or Colder Than The Present?

MIS 11: Warmer or Colder Than The Present?

As stated above, MIS 11 is considered the warmest interglacial period of the last 500 kyr. Nevertheless, some issues concern the lack of evidence for the trends and degree of warming during this interval. Recent isotopic and planktonic faunal data sets from high-accumulation rate marine successions in the North and South Atlantic indicate that MIS 11 was not warmer, but even slightly cooler than the Holocene. According to these data, the warmest interglacial period was likely MIS 5, although it was shorter.

Famous quotes containing the words the present?, warmer and/or colder:

    There are no such oysters, terrapin, or canvas-back ducks as there were in those days; the race is extinct. It is strange how things degenerate.... I passed, the other day, the deserted house of Mrs. Gerry, which I used to think so lordly. It stands alone now amid the surrounding sky-scrapers, and reminds me of Don Quixote going out to fight the windmills. It should always remain to mark the difference between the past and the present.
    M. E. W. Sherwood (1826–1903)

    You waves, though you dance by my feet like children at play,
    Though you glow and you glance, though you purr and you dart;
    In the Junes that were warmer than these are, the waves were more gay,
    When I was a boy with never a crack in my heart.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)

    There’s nothing colder than chemistry.
    Anita Loos (1888–1981)
