Marine Grade Stainless

Marine grade stainless, or SAE 316 stainless steel is the second most common austenite stainless steel, preferred for use in marine environments for its greater resistance to pitting corrosion. The steel can be used as well when non-magnetic metal is needed. The steel contains both nickel and chromium metals.

While the steel is not completely rust-proof, the alloy is more resistant than household stainless steels. Fire trucks manufactured in the United States are made with Marine Grade stainless steel. Another use for 316 steel is surgical steel which is made from subtypes of 316 stainless steel.

Famous quotes containing the words marine, grade and/or stainless:

People run away from the name subsidy. It is a subsidy. I am not afraid to call it so. It is paid for the purpose of giving a merchant marine to the whole country so that the trade of the whole country will be benefitted thereby, and the men running the ships will of course make a reasonable profit.... Unless we have a merchant marine, our navy if called upon for offensive or defensive work is going to be most defective.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

Ideas are like pizza dough, made to be tossed around, and nearly every book represents what my son’s third grade teacher refers to as a “teachable moment.”
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)

I stir my martinis with the screw,
    four-inch and stainless steel,
and think of my hip where it lay
for four years like a darkness.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
