Academics

Marin Academy has phased out all Advanced Placement classes with the exception of AP Environmental Science. Instead, a plethora of honors and advances courses are offered, which are said to contend with the rigor of traditional Advanced Placement classes.

Marin Academy is an academically focused school, with a student-to-teacher ratio of 9:1 and an average class size of 15. More than 67% of the faculty hold advanced degrees. More than 99% of Marin Academy graduates go on to attend a four-year college or university. Members of the graduating class of 2011 will be attending some of the most prestigious colleges in the United States such as Harvard University, Princeton University, Brown University, Stanford University, Columbia University, and MIT.

Travis Brownley, an educator who was the dean of several prestigious institutions such as the Groton School, was appointed the head of school in 2008 following the departure of the previous head of school, Bodie Brizendine, who had led the school for 12 years, and Dick Drew, who served as interim head of school.

Famous quotes containing the word academics:

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)

Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain “above the fray” only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.
    Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)
