Maria am Gestade (St. Mary on the Shore) Roman Catholic church ranks among Vienna's oldest churches (together with St Peter's and St Rupert) and one of the few surviving examples of Gothic architecture in the city. The church is located in Vienna's First District (Inner City) at Salvatorgasse 12, near the Donaukanal and was traditionally used by sailors on the Danube. The name reflects the former location on the bank of an arm of the Danube, prior to its regulation.
