Mar Thoma Weddings - Day of Wedding

Day of Wedding

Marthoma weddings are usually on Thursdays. In a country where Saturday is a holiday, working people prefer to have it on Saturdays for added convenience. But two celebrations are not to be held on the same day. There will be no wedding on a Sunday because it is set apart for worship, prayer and Bible study. Also lent is a period of solemn fasting and meditation. Fridays are avoided because it reminds the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Hindus avoid weddings on Tuesdays and Fridays. Certain sections of the Saint Thomas Christians have the weddings on Sundays also.

Famous quotes containing the words day of, day and/or wedding:

You have to be nice and congenial and enthusiastic. What makes that so difficult is you have to be nice, congenial, and enthusiastic three hundred and sixty-five days in a row!... You can’t have a day off.
    Shirley Cothran-Barnet (b. c. 1955)

If you would shut your door against the children for an hour a day and say: “Mother is working on her five-act tragedy in blank verse!” you would be surprised how they would respect you. They would probably all become playwrights.
    Brenda Ueland (1891–1985)

In marriage there are no manners to keep up, and beneath the wildest accusations no real criticism. Each is familiar with that ancient child in the other who may erupt again.... We are not ridiculous to ourselves. We are ageless. That is the luxury of the wedding ring.
    Enid Bagnold (1889–1981)
