Biography

Born in Cuba on April 16, 1957, Manuel Alvarez was the oldest son of a middle income, Christian family. He came to the United States during the Cuban Revolution. He was separated from his family as a young boy when he was sent to the United States to live with a foster family through an outreach program while his father was placed in a Cuban prison. After four years, Alvarez was reunited with his family in New York and his father was able to start a business and buy property in Hoboken, New Jersey. Today, Alvarez lives in New Jersey with his wife and three children.

Known widely to audiences as "Dr. Manny," Alvarez was previously a health science reporter for Telemundo and developed a nightly news segment entitled "A Dose of Health." Since 1996, he has been the Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Science at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey. Additionally, Alvarez is Adjunct Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York University School of Medicine in New York City.

Joining Fox News Channel in 2005, Alvarez provided his medical expertise during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, regularly being seen on the network explaining what effects the storm had on the people it affected.
