History

Management Dynamics was founded in 1990 by Jim Preuninger, who maintains his role as CEO of the company. Prior to founding the company, Jim founded an ERP and Supply Chain Management VAR, and developed an automated tariff management system for the containerized transportation space. In 1999, the company developed the first fully automated contract management system for carriers, shippers, and logistics service providers. Mr. Preuninger holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Drexel University.

In March of 2011, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (GS) agreed to invest as much as $65 million in Management Dynamics to enable the company to pursue an acquisition. Goldman Sachs provided $15 million in equity up front and plans to supply as much as $50 million more in the future. Goldman Sachs holds a minority stake in Management Dynamics.

In November 2011, Management Dynamics changed its name to Amber Road. Derived from the ancient trading route of the same name, Amber Road evokes images of trade throughout history and more accurately embodies the nature of the company's business.

Jim's brother, John Preuninger, is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Amber Road. For the past 15 years, John has managed the sales, research and development, and service organizations for Amber Road. Previously, John was a strategy consultant at Monitor Company, advising multinational corporations on business strategy and execution. John has a Master's degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School, and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Drexel University.
