Soundtrack Releases

Mame's original soundtrack album (Warner Bros. W 2773) was released in the spring of 1974, timed to the release of the film. The original Broadway cast recording with Angela Lansbury had sold over a million copies, and Warner Bros. Records hoped the soundtrack album would duplicate that success. It didn't. Within a year thousands of remaindered copies were flooding cut-out and discount bins. The recording was unavailable for many years until Rhino released a limited edition Handmade CD edition in 2004. This edition was limited to 2,500 individually numbered copies, which quickly sold out. In 2005, Rhino licensed their digital master to Collector's Choice Music, a label devoted mainly to reissues of obscure titles. Both contain the same tracklisting and same versions as the original 1974 vinyl release. Due to Warner Bros. inability to create an acceptable stereo soundtrack for the film's DVD release, this soundtrack album remains the only source for stereo versions of most of the songs.

Famous quotes containing the word releases:

We need a type of theatre which not only releases the feelings, insights and impulses possible within the particular historical field of human relations in which the action takes place, but employs and encourages those thoughts and feelings which help transform the field itself.
    Bertolt Brecht (1898–1956)
