Entrance Into Australian Politics
In the March 2007 New South Wales state election, Habib stood as an independent candidate in the safe Labor seat of Auburn in Sydney. He received less than 5% of the vote and the seat was comfortably retained by the Australian Labor Party.
He campaigned for the removal of the Federal Government's anti-terror laws, stating "The terror laws are if you have terrorists, but we don't have terrorists". He is linked to the Socialist Alternative (Australia), and has made speeches at Socialist Alternative events to promote his book and raise awareness of the anti-terror laws in Australia.

Famous quotes containing the words entrance into, entrance, australian and/or politics:
“A transition from an authors books to his conversation, is too often like an entrance into a large city, after a distant prospect. Remotely, we see nothing but spires of temples, and turrets of palaces, and imagine it the residence of splendor, grandeur, and magnificence; but, when we have passed the gates, we find it perplexed with narrow passages, disgraced with despicable cottages, embarrassed with obstructions, and clouded with smoke.”
—Samuel Johnson (17091784)
“Love bade me welcome: yet my soul drew back,
Guilty of dust and sin.
But quick-eyed Love, observing me grow slack
From my first entrance in,
Drew nearer to me, sweetly questioning,
If I lacked any thing.”
—George Herbert (15931633)
“Each Australian is a Ulysses.”
—Christina Stead (19021983)
“Politics is war without bloodshed while war is politics with bloodshed.”
—Mao Zedong (18931976)
