Keith, Her Husband
When she was a child, Sarah Pritchard resided in Watauga County—also now Avery County—which was her main residence until her death. There, she attended a single-room schoolhouse.
In those years, she became a close friend of William McKesson Blalock, who was the member of a family which had been rivals with hers for 150 years. William was ten years older and was nicknamed "Keith" after a great contemporary boxer, due to his skill at the same sport. Eventually, at age 19, Sarah married William in the politically turbulent 1861, causing a big stir around the families then.

Famous quotes containing the word husband:
“The prince exults whomever he selects as his consort, but the queen, rather than elevating the subject of her choice, humiliates him as a man. By all that is right, a man is not intended to be the husband of his wife, but a woman is to be her husbands wife.”
—Franz Grillparzer (17911872)
