- Federal Route 1 is the longest and oldest federal road in Malaysia.
- Federal Route 1 became a main route for Japanese Imperial forces from Singgora (now Songkhla) to Singapore during the Battle of Malaya between 1941 and 1942.
- There are many abandoned WWII-era bunkers in the rice fields near Alor Setar, easily spotted from Federal Route 1.
