Maintenance Fee

A maintenance fee, beyond the self-evident meaning of 'a charge for maintaining something' can refer specifically to;

  • a fee need to be paid during the term of a patent in order to maintain it into force, see maintenance fee (patent)
  • a management fee, see Mutual Fund Fee and Expenses
  • maintenance fee (EPA), the annual fees paid by pesticide manufacturers and formulators to continue registration of pesticide active ingredients and products with the Environmental Protection Agency.

Famous quotes containing the words maintenance and/or fee:

    However patriarchal the world, at home the child knows that his mother is the source of all power. The hand that rocks the cradle rules his world. . . . The son never forgets that he owes his life to his mother, not just the creation of it but the maintenance of it, and that he owes her a debt he cannot conceivably repay, but which she may call in at any time.
    Frank Pittman (20th century)

    As a general rule never take your whole fee in advance, nor any more than a small retainer. When fully paid beforehand, you are more than a common mortal if you can feel the same interest in the case, as if something was still in prospect for you, as well as for your client.
    Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865)
