Main Street Electrical Parade

The Main Street Electrical Parade is a regularly scheduled parade, created by Bob Jani and project director Ron Miziker, famous for its long run at Disneyland at the Disneyland Resort most summers between 1972–1974, 1977–1982, and 1985-1996. It features floats and live performers covered in thousands of electronically controlled lights and a synchronized soundtrack triggered by radio control along key areas of the parade route. The parade was also spun off many other versions that ran or continue to run at Disney parks around the world. Currently, the original parade runs at Magic Kingdom park as Disney's Main Street Electrical Parade and an updated version runs at Tokyo Disneyland as Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade: DreamLights. The song is notable for its use of the vocoder voice effect, saying the lines, "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Disneyland proudly presents our spectacular festival pageant of nighttime magic and imagination in thousands of sparkling lights and electro-synthe-magnetic musical sounds. The Main Street Electrical Parade!" Near the end, it repeats, "Disneyland's Main Street Electrical Parade!"

It was announced on February 10, 2010 that the Main Street Electrical Parade will return to the Magic Kingdom for a limited time as part of their "Summer Nightastic!" entertainment package. The Disney's Electrical Parade at Disney California Adventure ended its run on April 18, 2010, to be moved to Florida. While it was originally planned that it would return to Disney California Adventure in the winter, Disney announced on July 29, 2010 that it will be extended to an "open ended" run at the Magic Kingdom.

Famous quotes containing the words main, street, electrical and/or parade:

Whoever considers morality the main objective of human existence, seems to me like a person who defines the purpose of a clock as not going wrong. The first objective for a clock, is, however, that it does run; not going wrong is an additional regulative function. If not a watch’s greatest accomplishment were not going wrong, unwound watches might be the best.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)

[I]t forged ahead to become a full-fledged metropolis, with 143 faro games, 30 saloons, 4 banks, 27 produce stores, 3 express offices—and an arena for bull-and-bear fights, which, described by Horace Greeley in the New York Tribune, is said to have given Wall Street its best-known phrases.
—For the State of California, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

Few speeches which have produced an electrical effect on an audience can bear the colourless photography of a printed record.
Archibald Philip Primrose, 5th Earl Rosebery (1847–1929)

With the greater part of rich people, the chief enjoyment of riches consists in the parade of riches, which in their eyes is never so complete as when they appear to possess those decisive marks of opulence which nobody can possess but themselves.
    Adam Smith (1723–1790)
