Magnus Samuelsson - Strongman Career

Strongman Career

Magnus has achieved a podium place in WSM on 5 separate occasions. Magnus holds the record for reaching the World's Strongest Man finals 10 times, a feat which he achieved over a 13 year span from 1995-2007. He was the first man to ever win the Strongman Super Series overall title in 2001. He is also one of only 5 men in the world to have successfully closed the No. 4 Captains of Crush hand-gripper under official conditions. Magnus has achieved a podium finish in 31 total contests, making him one of the most successful strongman competitors of all time.

Magnus' brother, Torbjorn Samuelsson also competes in strongman, winning Sweden's Strongest Man 2 times and competing at the World's Strongest Man contest from 2000-2002.

During the heats for the 1995 World's Strongest Man contest, Magnus broke the arm of Nathan Jones. In his "World's Strongest Arms" DVD Magnus explains the fundamentals of arm-wrestling. Magnus never intended for Jones to become injured, but Jones was using the novice technique of side twisting. Overall body strength cannot be used in such a position, it is a very dangerous movement frequently resulting in a broken humerus bone.

Magnus is supported at every competition by his wife Kristin, a former two-time winner of Sweden's strongest woman.

Magnus returned to World's Strongest Man in the 2006, but failed to make it out of the qualifying rounds due to a back injury. In 2007 Magnus was able to qualify for the finals, and finished in 5th place.

Like the old soldier of the ballad, I now close my military career and just fade away, an old soldier who tried to do his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty. Goodbye.
