Magnetic Reynolds Number

The Magnetic Reynolds number is a dimensionless group that occurs in magnetohydrodynamics. It gives an estimate of the effects of magnetic advection to magnetic diffusion, and is typically defined by:

where

  • is a typical velocity scale of the flow
  • is a typical length scale of the flow
  • is the magnetic diffusivity

Famous quotes containing the words magnetic, reynolds and/or number:

We are in great haste to construct a magnetic telegraph from Maine to Texas; but Maine and Texas, it may be, have nothing important to communicate.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    William Blake (1757–1827)

While I do not suggest that humanity will ever be able to dispense with its martyrs, I cannot avoid the suspicion that with a little more thought and a little less belief their number may be substantially reduced.
