Magister (degree) - Central Europe and Eastern Europe

Central Europe and Eastern Europe

In Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia obtaining the Magister requires at least four to six years of study including coursework and a final thesis, similar to a Diplom degree. Magisters tend to be awarded in the humanities and the social sciences, while Diploms dominate in the natural sciences and in engineering.

Since the introduction of the Bologna Process in 2005 the Magister was replaced with the graduate master degree, which is designed to take 4(-6) years (including the undergraduate 3-year Bachelor degree).

Famous quotes containing the words central, europe and/or eastern:

    Friends serve central functions for children that parents do not, and they play a critical role in shaping children’s social skills and their sense of identity. . . . The difference between a child with close friendships and a child who wants to make friends but is unable to can be the difference between a child who is happy and a child who is distressed in one large area of life.
    Zick Rubin (20th century)

    I’ve come to think of Europe as a hardcover book, America as the paperback version.
    Don Delillo (b. 1926)

    And not by eastern windows only,
    When daylight comes, comes in the light;
    In front the sun climbs slow, how slowly!
    But westward, look, the land is bright!
    Arthur Hugh Clough (1819–1861)
