Maesteg Railway Station - History

History

The station is now the terminus of the Maesteg Line from Cardiff via Bridgend. Previously, the line continued northbound through the old Maesteg station which closed with the withdrawal of passenger services in 1970. The former station platforms and footbridge still exist, although the track has now been removed and there is heavy tree and plant growth at the location.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The principle office of history I take to be this: to prevent virtuous actions from being forgotten, and that evil words and deeds should fear an infamous reputation with posterity.
    Tacitus (c. 55–117)

The History of the world is not the theatre of happiness. Periods of happiness are blank pages in it, for they are periods of harmony—periods when the antithesis is in abeyance.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

It is true that this man was nothing but an elemental force in motion, directed and rendered more effective by extreme cunning and by a relentless tactical clairvoyance .... Hitler was history in its purest form.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)
