MADtv Recurring Characters - Dot Goddard

Dot Goddard (Stephnie Weir) is an unintelligent, mentally disturbed, hyperactive 7-year-old girl with ADD, who has an enormous childlike imagination. It is revealed that her real name is Penelope in one episode. Her twin sister, Karen Goddard (Alex Borstein), is a child genius, who has led NASA expeditions.

The pair's parents are proud of Karen, but continually frustrated and disappointed by Dot; Dot herself appears unaware of this. Karen, on the other hand, appears to enjoy the company of her sister nonetheless. Once Alex Borstein, who portrayed Karen, had left the show, Dot continued to appear, with her parents usually wearing shirts reading "My Other Child Is A Genius".

Dot is obsessed with gloves, to the point of becoming desperate when she cannot wear them. She is evidently entertained by the fact that her small gloves fit on her hands, claiming that this is "magic". She sometimes wears several layers of gloves.

Dot appears to consider God and Jesus as her close friends, talking about them in humorous ways. Her parents and Karen appear to be atheists or agnostics, downplaying this.

Famous quotes containing the word goddard:

There is no mystery in a looking glass until someone looks into it. Then, though it remains the same glass, it presents a different face to each man who holds it in front of him. The same is true of a work of art. It has no proper existence as art until someone is reflected in it—and no two will ever be reflected in the same way. However much we all see in common in such a work, at the center we behold a fragment of our own soul, and the greater the art the greater the fragment.
    —Harold C. Goddard (1878–1950)
