Madison Square Mall

Madison Square Mall is Huntsville, Alabama's largest enclosed shopping center, encompassing over 929,993 sq ft (86,399.2 m2). It is also now the oldest extant enclosed shopping mall in the city. Anchored by JCPenney, Dillard's Clearance Center, Sears, and Belk, the mall is located on the corner of University Dr. (U.S. 72) and Research Park Blvd.

Madison Square Mall opened on August 1, 1984 with anchors JCPenney, Parisian, Castner Knott, Pizitz, and a Sears which had relocated from Heart of Huntsville Mall. Junior anchors included Yielding and Blach's. Over time, some of the anchors have had changes. Blach's was closed by 1987 and its space is now filled by The Limited and Victoria's Secret. Pizitz was acquired by Jackson, Mississippi-based McRae's in 1988 and was renamed as such until McRae's was bought out by Charlotte, North Carolina-based Belk Inc. Castner Knott was acquired in 1998 by Dillard's, and Yielding closed their Madison Square Mall location in about 1993. For the next 10 years the space was used by Castner Knott/Dillard's as space for their menswear. Until 2008, Steve & Barry's used the space. In 2007, when Belk purchased Parisian, Belk moved its store from the former McRae's parcel to the much larger former Parisian parcel and renovated it to fit the Belk model. The former McRae's remains vacant.

In addition to the in-line stores, several other businesses are located at the Madison Square site, including a Holiday Inn hotel, Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon, Romano's Macaroni Grill and Steak 'n Shake restaurants, and a TouchStar Cinemas theater.

Madison Square Mall has been renovated twice since its opening, in 1994 and again in 2006.

Madison Square Mall is owned by CBL & Associates Properties, Inc..

Famous quotes containing the words madison, square and/or mall:

Despotism can only exist in darkness, and there are too many lights now in the political firmament to permit it to remain anywhere, as it has heretofore done, almost everywhere.
    —James Madison (1751–1836)

A man who is good enough to shed his blood for his country is good enough to be given a square deal afterwards. More than that no man is entitled to, and less than that no man shall have.
    Theodore Roosevelt (1858–1919)

A father ... knows exactly what those boys at the mall have in their depraved little minds because he once owned such a depraved little mind himself. In fact, if he thinks enough about the plans that he used to have for young girls, the father not only will support his wife in keeping their daughter home but he might even run over to the mall and have a few of those boys arrested.
    Bill Cosby (20th century)
