Madiga - History

History

Madigas traditionally lived in hamlets outside mainstream village life. Their huts in the hamlets, usually referred as the Madiga gudem, were loosely connected to a narrow path that would guide to the main road of the village. By the twentieth century both British administration and Nizams’ administration began to employ them as village messengers. Women belonging to this caste are considered most loyal to their husbands and are very conservative and well charectered. They are recognized as the most brave, sincere and loyal people."Kulam neethi ra matham Madiga ra".. a famous saying by Pothuluri Veerabrahmam.
