Macau Light Rail Transit - History

History

The Macau LRT was first proposed in 2003 by the Macau SAR Government. After the original proposal was rejected by the public, the final decision to build the LRT was not made until October 2006. The system would improve transportation options between the Macau Peninsula, Taipa and Cotai, and relieve traffic congestion on roads and bridges. The Macau LRT will be the first rapid transit system within the Special Administrative Region.

Site investigation work started in 2008. The system aims to be operating by the end of 2015,; rolling stock was ordered in January 2011.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

There is a constant in the average American imagination and taste, for which the past must be preserved and celebrated in full-scale authentic copy; a philosophy of immortality as duplication. It dominates the relation with the self, with the past, not infrequently with the present, always with History and, even, with the European tradition.
    Umberto Eco (b. 1932)

While the Republic has already acquired a history world-wide, America is still unsettled and unexplored. Like the English in New Holland, we live only on the shores of a continent even yet, and hardly know where the rivers come from which float our navy.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

All things are moral. That soul, which within us is a sentiment, outside of us is a law. We feel its inspiration; out there in history we can see its fatal strength.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
