Wyoming U.S. Senate Seat Vacancy

Cheney had been considered as a possible contender to fulfill the late U.S. Senator Craig L. Thomas' term in the U.S. Senate. A Cheney spokesman stated she was considering the post. Cheney chose not to seek the seat when she did not sign an application to become a candidate for the position. Famous quotes containing the words wyoming, senate, seat and/or vacancy:

The admission of the States of Wyoming and Idaho to the Union are events full of interest and congratulation, not only to the people of those States now happily endowed with a full participation in our privileges and responsibilities, but to all our people. Another belt of States stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
    Benjamin Harrison (1833–1901)

We have been here over forty years, a longer period than the children of Israel wandered through the wilderness, coming to this Capitol pleading for this recognition of the principle that the Government derives its just powers from the consent of the governed. Mr. Chairman, we ask that you report our resolution favorably if you can but unfavorably if you must; that you report one way or the other, so that the Senate may have the chance to consider it.
    Anna Howard Shaw (1847–1919)

My taking a seat on the Council of the Fathers caused a desperate fluttering among my ghosts.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)

The noisy vacancy of youth, the quiet vacancy of age.
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)
